The Captain's a Jerk: Spiced Rum and Root Beer
Spiced rum and creamy root beer, shaken cold until the Captain finally behaves. This is a rum and root beer shot with a soda-fountain heart: warm baking spice from the rum, smooth vanilla root beer from the shot, shaken and served ice cold. Two ingredients, one very good idea.
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz Soda Jerk Root Beer Shot
- 1.5 oz spiced rum
- Ice, for shaking
Makes 2 shots.
How to make a rum and root beer shot
- Add the Soda Jerk Root Beer Shot and spiced rum to a shaker filled with ice.
- Shake hard until well chilled.
- Strain into two chilled shot glasses and shoot. Be a Jerk responsibly.
Variations & swaps
- Dark rum: swap in an aged dark rum for a deeper, molasses-forward sip.
- On the rocks: double the recipe and pour over a big cube to sip instead of shoot.
- Cream float: add half an ounce of cream for a spiced root beer float twist.
FAQ
What is rum and root beer called?
There's no single classic name. It's often just called a rum and root beer or a spiced root beer shot. At Soda Jerk we call ours The Captain's a Jerk: spiced rum shaken with our Root Beer Shot.
What rum goes best with root beer?
Spiced rum is the natural match. Its vanilla and baking-spice notes echo the root beer. Aged dark rum works too if you want it richer.
